Greetings!
I am a college instructor in-training, otherwise known as a PhD student. In the classroom I encourage my students to pursue their creative passions while also paying attention to business questions relating to their work. This is my voice and my passion.
Here at this blog I’m writing about an area that has long-fascinated me, minor and college hockey. My goal is to look primarily at the economics of the sport outside of the NHL, namely big-picture topics involving the American Hockey League, CHL and ECHL at the league levels, the state of minor pro franchises and how leagues and teams grow their businesses. As a graduate student at Penn State, I also have a unique opportunity- I’ll chronicle the transition of our hockey teams from club squads to Division I newcomers.
The best blogs have a unique voice and writing style, are frequently updated with their own original material and fill a niche in terms of topics. At Shooting for the Show, I’ll draw on the decade I spent in the field of journalism and PR to hit all three points. This isn’t just a “fan” blog in the traditional sense. I am aiming for original reporting and interviews with sources.
Aside from the minimal coverage of player transactions, minor and college hockey doesn’t receive much attention in the blogging world (or from mainstream sports journalists for that matter). Against such a long preamble, I can only say that I hope my readers find this blog informative and insightful.
